GODSONG PERMISSIONS OPT-IN

Arguably, the most important plot device inherent to THE WICKED + THE DIVINE is how the gods inspire humanity -- and this session of godlings employ sound/music. The divine influence speaks to the essence of the human condition, to the persuasion of love and hate and hope and despair, to all the little agonies and glories that define a human life. There is literally an entire issue (1923) that explores the reverberation of Pantheon influence through art upon the century to come -- in the WicDiv universe, it is life that imitates art, gods that describe mortals, fresh creation in the manic zeitgeist of bottled lightning. For better or worse.

Baphomet's own sound is barely examined in the comic itself; his only exhibition is a TRULY INFURIATED duet with the Morrigan, so the impact of his godsong will be highly headcanoned. Given his canon themes (captivity, tragedy, rage, resilience) and his ACTUAL GOD NERGAL divinity spheres of influence (war, death, pestilence, the high noon sun), I conceive his godsong as infectious and heated, like a glow beneath the skin that can never be scratched out. His song inspires rebellion -- to an extreme degree, riot. Depending on the individual receptive to his sound, this could be a questioning of one's priorities, a new burst of defiance against oppressive forces, it could be a break of old bad habits, it could be a total annihilation of the painstakingly built life one had made for oneself. His song is an OUTBREAK. It is a PLAGUE, it is BREAKING FREE. Whether that is a good thing or a bad thing depends entirely on the player working with it plotwise.

His godsong must be audibly heard -- it can be heard over social media, over the Network, but it must be verbally delivered (nothing psychic, that wouldn't have impact). While Baphomet's godlike state grants him unusual durability, he will always be at his weakest when he's performing his godsong. Severe injury and even death can obliterate him more easily in those moments.

Poe's anxiety possesses the depths of a black hole; powerful, all-consuming. But luckily, that isn't his focus, as long as he keeps his sights on the more elegant movements of life -- he can lay claim to emotions of CONFIDENCE and URGENCY, a compelling force that feels like it might just escape gravity. This is a continuation of his action, the desperation to KEEP MOVING, to never surrender to that black hole. This is manic energy, this is wild accomplishment floating on a fear of his known worlds collapsing. His enthusiasm may become uncontrollable, his flight too erratic -- there's always the possibility to push too far, too hard, there's always the possibility of self-destruction.

It isn't necessarily a riot that bubbles in Matthew's heart -- the edges are softer, and yet the vibrancy is bolder. This is focused intent rather than spurious rage, this is the knowledge that you MUST act amidst a crisis and you must act WELL. Baphomet's godsong inspires versatility in Matthew, an ease in switching between different colored hats as they situation might call for it. Any doubt he had about his capabilities are outshone by a rashness to ACT NOW and a focus to pull off whatever his mission is. This song takes him out of the world of dreams and clarifies an impulse to lead -- and lead BETTER than those authority figures might have been leading themselves. His defiance is outpacing their competence, because of a sudden and single-minded tunnel vision. Act now, act well.

Now this one is all BRIGHTNESS and FIRE! Yusuke is imbued with a defiance that demands PERFORMANCE. He is out to prove his worth, he is breaking free of his dark cages, he is shattering the expectations of others. His words might sound sharper, his eyes might burn hotter, but he is unable to be held captive by anyone or anything anymore -- that includes codependency, should such a situation arise. Baphomet's godsong blocks out the judgements of others in his mind, however briefly, and it urges Yusuke to focus on himself. His needs, his destiny, his abilities.

This plunges down into the Underworld, this begins as a cold and silent rage. Baphomet's song inspires fury against the injustice that Tate might know, it might cause Tate to see red while he hears it -- within Tate grows a burning, melting, consuming inferno that soon comes into conflict with that icy anger freezing his exterior. This is an explosion. This has the potential to end badly.

I'm trying to figure out how the godsong would affect him since he did get him during that quiz. Eikichi has already changed appearance due to his love for someone, has overcome the fear of his father, is the Boss at a delinquent all-boys school...he's already broken free from a lot of things.
